FAQ’S

  • What is Permanent Makeup (PMU)?

There are many names and variations of techniques but all brow tattoos, or Permanent Makeup, (PMU), involves placing ink beneath the skin to mimic makeup or hair. How long it lasts varies based on technique, ink, lifestyle, and skin type. For lasting vibrancy, touch-ups or color boosts are suggested.

How does nanoblading differ from powder and hybrid techniques?

Different styles exist in PMU. I specialize in:

Hair stroke technique (nano blading): Using tattooed lines for a hair-like illusion.

Powder technique: Offers soft shading for a soft makeup-like appearance. This technique is buildable for more density if desired.

Hybrid: A combination, with hair strokes in the front and shading for the brow's arch and tail.

During consultations, we guide you on the best technique for your skin and desired look.

How do I pick the right PMU technician?

Choosing the right artist is crucial. Opt for an artist whose style aligns with your vision. Assess Before and After photos, check online reviews, and consider their experience and portfolio.

Will I work on existing brow tattoo?

My books to new clients are closed.

Do you offer tattoos for men's brows?

My books to new clients are closed.

What if I'm unsatisfied with my brows?

PMU decisions shouldn't be taken lightly. Research thoroughly and review various artists' works. We aim to shape and style brows to your preference, while staying authentic to our Reve style. Remember, faces aren't symmetrical, and tweaks can be made during touch-ups. It's essential to wait for 6 weeks post-procedure for the brows to heal before finalizing your views.

Important: Perfect results aren't guaranteed, and outcomes vary based on individual healing. Following our Pre & Post Care Instructions is vital for optimal healing. Initial brows will be darker, and they lighten as the skin regenerates. Periodic color boosts keep your brows vibrant.

  • Please review the following list of contraindications that would make you ineligible.

    Under 18

Must be 18 or older. Even with parental consent we cannot tattoo anyone under 18.

    Pregnant or Nursing

Hormonal changes during this time can affect retention. Another concern, although small, is the risk of contracting an infection.

    Allergies

If you have allergies to metals or colorants you are ineligible. Please disclose any allergies to epinephrine, lidocaine, or any numbing agents. Although small, there is a risk of immediate allergic reaction or a delayed reaction.

    Skin Conditions

Unfortunately not everyone is a good candidate, the following skin conditions make you ineligible.

Severe acne - we cannot tattoo over inflamed or compromised skin

Accutane - this medication alters the state of your skin making it thin and sensitive. You must wait a full year after stopping accutane before you can receive the procedure.

Skin disorders - Rosacea, eczema, keratosis, psoriasis, any skin condition in the brow area where the skin is compromised may make you ineligible for the procedure. The texture of the skin may lead to poor results.

Keloid Scarring - If you are prone to keloid scarring you are ineligible. Because of the nature of the procedure, the puncture or cutting may lead to keloid scars.

    Medical Conditions

Unfortunately the following medical conditions make you ineligible

Compromised immune system - because the risk of developing an infection is higher in people with compromised immune systems, conditions such as Lupus, individuals who have undergone an organ transplant, individuals with viral infections or diseases or undergoing chemotherapy make you ineligible.

Major heart problems or pacemaker -We use epinephrine as a numbing agent that can increase your heart rate, possibly causing dysrhythmias.

Surgeries in the brow area - in the last 3 months, (i.e. facelift, brow lift, blepharoplasty, etc.) You must wait until fully healed and cleared by your surgeon.

Diabetes - If your blood sugar levels are not in range the tattoo may not heal properly or quickly, increasing the risk of infection. You MUST have written consent from the doctor.

    Other

Although extremely rare, we may refuse to perform your procedure if our desired outcomes are not lined up. Please do not book if you are unsure, extremely nervous, or are feeling pressured or forced to get the procedure done. It is not my place to convince you. Please make an informed decision before booking.

Please look through the rest of the FAQ’s so that you make an informed decision and plan accordingly before booking.

    Check In

    Step 1: Take Photos

We always take photos to have on file

    Step 2: Numbing

Cream is applied to your skin covered by a plastic film wrap.

    Step 3: Analyze & Discuss

We’ll discuss lifestyle, shape, and color preferences.

    Step 4: Map Brows

I will use a soft pencil to create a stencil for you to approve. With Color Boosts, the stencil is sometimes minimal or very light, I need to see the existing tattoo while i work.

    Step 5: Procedure

Ink is applied by using a machine. Done in multiple passes to build up the brow. Secondary numbing is applied in between passes. Brows will be cleaned and ready for you to view the final result.

    Step 6: Aftercare Instructions

We recommend reviewing our Aftercare before appointment so that you may ask questions at this time. We will supply instructions and materials for you as well.

    Step 7: Check out

Cash, credit, debit, zelle are accepted. Cash is preferred.

Gratuity: The option is available when you check out as some clients want the option to leave gratuity.

Gratuity is always appreciated but never expected!

Common questions we can discuss during your consultation.

    Does it hurt?

Although not painless, clients feedback is that it is much more tolerable than what they expected. We do use numbing agents throughout the procedure.

Will my brows look 100% perfect?

No. And to expect perfect eyebrows is unrealistic. Permanent makeup is a form of art and the best way to ensure that you will be satisfied is to find an artist with a ‘signature style’ that you can relate to. My style of PMU is to create a design that brings balance and is in harmony with your natural features. But our faces, bones, and muscle structure is not 100% symmetrical, therefore it is unrealistic to expect 100% perfection.

How is the shape and color chosen?

During the consultation we go over your preferred style, and goals. Feel free to show me examples of what you do and don't like. I then map the brows based on your features and goals, I then show you, and make adjustments per your request. Color suggestions are also given and you approve everything before we start.

Does it look like real hair?

Nanoblading style creates the illusion of hair. In order for it to look like hair there must be spaces in between each stroke. When you look up close you can tell it's a tattoo and you must see spaces in between. When looking at it from a normal distance it creates the illusion of hair. It is important to remember that it is a tattoo and once it heals there is a thin layer of skin over every stroke. The tattoo will always appear sharp and bright immediately after the procedure, but will soften and appear lighter once the skin heals over it.

Will you shave my eyebrows or remove all my hair?

Absolutely not! The purpose is to enhance your natural eyebrows. We only clean out the stray hairs that are outside of your desired shape.

What if I have scars or moles?

If a scar is at the same level as the skin, the procedure may be performed.

Moles cannot be tattooed, however, we can go around them.

Can I have the procedure done if I have no brow hair at all?

Absolutely! This is a great option for those who suffer from Alopecia, Trichotillomania, or have been through chemotherapy. Nano/Powder Brows can even correct past wax catastrophes, over tweezing, or normal hair thinning that occurs.

  • Let’s take care of your fresh brows!

Good retention depends on following the aftercare instructions just as much as it depends on good technique.

If you have any questions about your aftercare contact me immediately. If at any point you feel that the tattoo is not healing properly, or notice any sign of an infection or allergic reaction (any redness, swelling, pain, bumps or rash, scabs not healing or pus is present) Please notify me immediately for further instructions, You must also contact a medical professional if you feel it is necessary.

    For questions please call/text (312) 858-9750

Please make sure to read all the information carefully. We provide you with wipes to keep your brows clean and ointment to keep your skin moisturized.

The wipes come in two baggies. The pre-moistened baggie is the one with the “thank you” sticker. These are the wipes you will use on day 1 - the day of the procedure.

The cotton pads in the second baggie are dry. You will need to moisten each pad with filtered water before using it on days 2-10.

These are given dry because we don't want them to sit in water for 10 days.

The brow timeline is typical but it is NOT definite. Every person heals differently, therefore if your brows take a little longer to heal, don't worry,

    DAY 1

Starting at the end of your procedure, clean brows with a wipe using a gentle sweeping motion every 20 minutes for the first 2 hours.

Wipe in a single direction with light pressure. DO NOT RUB BACK AND FORTH!

Right before bed, clean one more time and apply a very thin layer of the ointment. (no more than half a pea size per brow)

    DAYS 2-10

At a time of your choosing, clean brows and apply ointment once a day

    ALL 10 DAYS

AVOID WETTING BROWS. Make sure to keep them dry during your showers by washing your body first, hair last, and tilting your head back to avoid the pressure from the shower head hitting your brows/face. Immediately blot any water off with a dry tissue once you are done. Wash face over the sink, using only a damp cloth to clean around brows. Lower half of the face may be washed normally.

    • No excessive sweating during 7 days. This is to avoid infection in the freshly tattooed area. Sweat & dirt can accumulate around the brow hair and you will not be able to wash the area properly.

    • No swimming, hot baths, jacuzzis or saunas

    • No rubbing, scratching, picking at the area. Try to sleep on your back as much as possible. Rubbing the brows on the pillow/sheets can lead to premature fallout of the scabs and poor retention.

    • No sun exposure

    • No other products on the brows for 7-10 days. This includes makeup, oils, soap, retinol, serums, or any other products. Your brows need to stay clean while the skin heals.

    • Avoid heavy household cleaning with airborne debris (i.e. garage or basement cleaning)

    • Avoid drinking alcohol in excess, it may lead to slow healing

    • Avoid open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles

    • Avoid touching the eyebrow area except for when cleaning and applying the ointment with a cotton swab

    DAY 11

Wash the brows very gently with mild soap. You may continue to use the ointment if the brows feel dry or itchy. Remember, your brows may appear very, very light and patchy immediately after the scabs fall off. Feel free to apply makeup if needed. The color will continue to darken or bloom over the next few weeks (see timeline below)

NOTE: sometimes skin takes a bit longer to heal. If you are on day 11 and you feel your skin has not fully healed, continue aftercare for a few more days until you feel you can safely wash your brows. Remember, every skin is different.

Some skin may heal faster but fully follow instructions for a minimum of 7 days.

    For questions please call/text 312.858.9750.

Please include your full name & details in your text.

Thank you for trusting me with your brow transformation!

  • DAYS 1-2 brows will appear dark, and continue to darken as the scabs form over newly created brows. Again, they will appear VERY DARK and LARGE, and may even have a reddish color... Don’t panic!

DAYS 2-10 the scabs will harden and fall off. The bulb and tail of the brows usually fall off first, making the brows appear patchy. Let the scabs fall off on their own. If the scabs are not loose, do not pull them off!! The amount of scabbing depends on your skin, some people may only see some flakiness.

DAYS 10-14 the brow will look very, very light, almost pasty and patchy. This is normal & will darken over time.

DAYS 15- 45 the brows will continue to darken each week & will appear patchy at times. Again, this is normal. It takes about 4-6 weeks for the brows to fully heal. Any adjustments to the brows can be done at your followup

  • What should I know about long term care?

The color will lighten over time. Fading greatly depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color used, iron deficiency, and if any chemical peels were done after your procedure.

What factors will affect my tattoo?

    Sun exposure

The sun will extremely soften the look of your tattoo, so a sunscreen should be used (once healed) to prolong your enhancement.

    The regeneration of skin cells

The longer the regeneration takes, the longer the ink holds.

The speed at which the skin absorbs the ink

The slower the absorption, the longer the ink will hold.

    The choice of ink color

Some colors may fade quicker than others, e.g. a blonde pigment may fade quicker than a dark brunette pigment.

    Bleeding during the procedure

Any bleeding during the tattooing procedure will reduce the amount of ink absorption.

    • If you are planning a chemical peel, or other procedure in the brow area, please inform the technician that you have had a cosmetic tattoo. Careful application must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area.

    • If you have an MRI simplu inform the technician you have a cosmetic tattoo.

    • If you are planning to have laser treatments, tell your laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area. Laser may cause pigment to turn black

    MAINTENANCE

Clean and exfoliate the brow area once a week to maintain the brows looking fresh. Remember, the tattoo strokes are underneath the skin. If you let dead skin cells build up over the area, the brows strokes will appear dull and very light. Keep your skin moisturized to help the tattoo appear vibrant and dark. SPF will help protect the ink from UV rays so it lasts longer! (Any over the counter face exfoliator works.)

    Makeup

If you wear foundation or face powder please be aware that applying makeup OVER the brows will make the tattoo appear dull and gray (remember the ink is UNDER the skin and makeup is sitting on top) Either apply the makeup cautiously around brows or clean the access and fallout over the brow. You can also lightly apply brow makeup over as you will have a shape to follow and will only need a bit.

    Grooming Brows

Preferences vary from client to client but many find it easier to groom their brows because they have a shape to follow. You can resume getting them waxed or threaded 14 days after the procedure if you prefer to. Some clients also find that they go more time between their appointments because the shape holds well.

    Color Boosts:

If you would like to maintain your brows vibrant and defined you can book color boosts anytime after 6 months. On average we see clients about 12-18 months after their first procedure, while some may take 24-36 months. Everyone is different, you need to let the tattoo fade about 40% and we must always protect the integrity of the skin first.

There is no guarantee in how long it lasts as each individual has very different skin and lifestyle.

During your appointment we mix inks to ensure the color blends well with your natural hair and skin color. There are some cases, however, where the color may fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the ink. At each appointment, we will re-analyze how your body has responded to the initial color. If needed, special formula alterations to correct the color are made at this time.

Clients can let the microbladed area fade over time, but please note a shadow or ink may remain.

  • STEP 1 : PLAN AHEAD

Have a significant event coming up? Weddings, family planning (remember, no brow work during pregnancy or breastfeeding), or relocating from Chicago? Plan accordingly by checking my availability, if I am not booking that far out please fill out waitlist form and add those details in the notes section.

    STEP 2: ACCESS YOUR NEEDS

Sometimes, a little cleaning, exfoliation, and hydration can rejuvenate your brows, making them look freshly done!

Groom - wax or thread to remove all baby hairs and reset shape.

Exfoliate - thoroughly wash brows with your normal face cleanser and/or exfoliator, we often wash around our brows but dead skin cell build up can make brows appear dull, don’t be afraid to thoroughly wash them.

Hydrate - use your normal face moisturizer and remember to regularly apply SPF to protect color.

STEP 3: DECIDE IF IT IS TIME TO BOOK

You’ve groomed them, exfoliated and hydrated, how do you feel about your brows now? IF THEY ARE STILL HOLDING THEIR SHAPE WELL, IT MAY BE TOO SOON TO BOOK YOUR BOOST. Let's avoid over-saturating the skin with ink, ensuring natural-looking brows long term.

If they are very light, the tone has shifted, or you have lost your shape, it may be time for a boost. Please check my availability to schedule your appointment.

I do not charge more the longer you wait in between visits. If you don’t need it, you simply don’t need it and protecting the integrity of the skin is my top priority! Ideally the brow should fade about 40% before we add more ink to the brow. Clients typically return 12-24 months post their Follow-up or last Color Boost, with some clients waiting even longer.

It is NOT necessary to get a color boost every year.

If you are still not sure if it is time for a boost, fill out the Waitlist Form and I will help you determine if its time :)
