Welcome!

On this page you will find answers to many of the questions you may have about microblading. It is important that you read through this entire page before deciding if microblading is for you.

Is Microblading a tattoo?

With the sudden popularity and media attention to the term microblading, many are led to falsely believe microblading is not a tattoo process. Permanent cosmetics, micropigmentation, dermal implantation, microblading/microstroking, eyebrow embroidery, and long-time/long-lasting makeup, are all different names for the same procedure – cosmetic tattooing. Any time pigment  is placed into the skin with any device, it is a tattoo process as defined by many well informed regulators, the medical community, and dictionary sources. Denying this process is a tattoo can be problematic for those who would, for religious or other personal reasons, normally refuse to have a tattoo.

Is it semi permanent or permanent?

Technically, microblading is considered permanent because the color is implanted into the upper dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, microblading pigment is not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional cosmetic tattoos, therefore the pigment will fade over time rendering it semi permanent.

Is Microblading for me?

If you have any of the following, Microblading will most likely not be the solution for you:
  • Excessive sebum (excessive oily skin), brow strokes can spread creating a more powdery look, thin crisp stokes may not be visible.
  • Overly sensitive skin
  • Allergies to topical anaesthetics
  • Severe Acne
  • Keratosis
  • Keloid scarring
  • Facial psoriasis or eczema
  • Overly dry skin
  • Iron deficiency
  • Previous tattoo
  • Fitzpatrick V & VI in the Fitzpatrick skin type scale. Microblading might not be suitable because of very high risk for scarring and very high risk of hyper/hypo pigmentation after treatment.
There are also various contraindications that will determine if you are an appropriate candidate for the procedure.

Will my brows look 100% perfect?

No. And to expect perfect eyebrows is unrealistic. Microblading is a form of art and the best way to ensure that you will be satisfied is to find an artist with a ‘signature style’ that you can relate to. Ask for before and after photos and read the reviews on their social media platforms.

How do I choose the right technician for me?

This is one of the MOST important steps when considering Microblading! In Illinois, your technician should be licensed by the Department of Health, insured and certified. Always ask for proof. Next, you should find an artist whose "signature style" resonates with your vision and personal style. Look at Before and After photos and read reviews on social media. With the sudden increase in demand and popularity there are many individuals that offer poor quality services in Microblading and it is therefore vital to do extensive research.

How long can I expect it to last? Will it fade?

Since microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade overtime. There is no guarantee in how long it lasts as each individual has very different skin and lifestyle. Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment: clients who tan and/or use products with AHA or Glycolic Acid will fade faster as your skin will resurface faster. Each individual's color retention within the skin will vary. To maintain the brows looking fresh, a touch up (color boost) is suggested every 6-18 months. Clients can let the microbladed area fade over time, but please note a slight shadow may remain.

How will my microbladed brows look in the feature?

During your appointment, we will analyze your skin tone to anticipate how pigment colors will heal and fade in the future. We will also mix pigments to ensure the color blends well with your natural hair and skin color. There are some cases, however, where the color may fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments (like lifestyle and iron deficiencies). Many factors affect these changes. At your follow up appointment, we will re-analyze how your body has responded to the initial color.  If needed, special formula alterations to correct the color is made at this time. Your eyebrow tattoo will eventually look softer and have more of a "powdered" look.  To keep your brows looking their best, a refresher appointment is suggested every 6-18 months. Results and preferences vary with each client.

What factors will effect my Microblading?

Sun exposure: The sun will extremely soften the look of your tattoo, so a physical sunscreen should be used (once healed) to prolong your enhancement.
The regeneration of skin cells: The longer the regeneration takes, the longer the pigment holds.
The speed at which the skin absorbs the pigment: The slower the absorption, the longer the pigment will hold.
The choice of pigment color: Some colors may fade quicker than others, e.g. a blonde pigment may fade quicker than a dark brunette pigment.
Bleeding during the procedure: Any bleeding during the tattooing procedure will reduce the amount of pigment absorption. Caffeine, alcohol, and certain medications act as blood-thinners and should avoided 48 hours prior to your appointment.

What should I know about long term care?

* The color will lighten over time. We recommend a touch up every 6-24 months to keep brows looking their best. Fading greatly depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color used, broken capillaries, iron deficiency, and if any chemical peels were done after your procedure.
* If you are planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical procedure, please inform the technician that you have had an iron-oxide cosmetic tattoo. Careful application must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area.
* If you are planning to have laser treatments, tell your laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area. Laser may cause pigment to turn black

Can I get tattooed if I am pregnant or nursing?

No, unfortunately we cannot do your brow procedure if you are pregnant or nursing due to risk of infection.

How old do I have to be to get tattooed?

Per the state of Illinois, 18+. ID is required before we begin your procedure.

Who is NOT suited for this procedure?

Microblading is not suitable for the following candidates:
  • Using Accutane
  • Have heart conditions or using heart medications
  • Have diabetes (will require a physician's note)
  • Have skin disease or irritations
  • Have had Botox in the last 2 weeks
  • Have gotten a deep tan or chemical peels in the last 4 weeks or show any sign of sunburn
  • Allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine or epinephrine
  • Anyone who has any serious medical conditions may require a physician's note.
  • If you are pregnant or nursing

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who we deem not suitable for this procedure or for any other reason. Our brow technician makes the final decision to microblade an individual based at her own discretion.

Other Contraindications may also include:
  • Using creams in the eyebrow area with the following ingredients; AHA's (lactic, glycolic, citric, retinoid and tartaric acids)
  • Flu or Cold: Please stay home, reschedule your appointment if you have cold or flu or sinus/respiratory infection.
  • Coumadin: Amount of bleeding and response to topical epinephrine will determine coverage per appointment. If excessive bleeding occurs, extra appointments may be necessary for desired outcome or procedure may not be effective.
  • Cancers/Chemotherapy: Doctor's clearance may be necessary.
  • Juvederm or other "fillers": Get permanent makeup first or ask your juvederm tech for clearance.
  • Shingles (varicella): If you have shingles on your face, wait several months to get permanent makeup.
  • Eyelift or blepharoplasty: Wait about 3 months.

What are the risks associated with the procedure?

We take all proper precautions for a safe session by using disposable, one time use only needles in a sanitized environment.  Should clients follow our pre and post care instructions, there should be minimal risks or complications.  Although allergic reactions to the pigments are rare, it could be possible for certain individuals. We suggest a pigment patch test for all individuals. However, you do reserve the right to waive a patch test if you so desire. If you have any questions or concerns about this please contact us.

Does it look like real hair?

Microblading appears MUCH MORE natural than traditional eyebrow block tattoos, the whole brow is NOT completely filled in. It is important to remember that microblading is a tattoo and once the microblading heals there is a thin  layer of skin over every hairlike stroke. The tattoo will always appear sharp and bright immediately after the procedure, but will soften and appear lighter once the skin heals over it. But this technique does give the illusion of hair, and if done properly, the results are beautiful, soft natural looking brows.

What if i have scars or moles?

One of the most common issues faced by Microblading are scars. If you have or are prone to developing raised scars (keloid) in the procedure area, you will be at risk of keloid formation from a tattoo. They form anytime you injure or traumatize your skin. In this case, Microblading is not appropriate and will not be performed.
If a scar is at the same level as the skin, the procedure may be performed. Please consult with the therapist beforehand.
Like scars, moles cannot be tattooed, however, we can go around them.

Will you shave my eyebrows or remove all my hair?

Absolutely not! That is what is so wonderful about this procedure. The purpose is to enhance your natural eyebrows. After designing your shape we only clean out the stray hairs that are outside of our desired shape.

Can I have the procedure done if I have no brow hair at all?

Absolutely! This is a great option for those who suffer from Alopecia, Trichotillomania, or have been through chemotherapy. Microblading can even correct past wax catastrophes, over tweezing, or normal hair thinning that occurs post menopause.

Do I still have to wax or pluck after having this procedure done?

The eyebrow tattoo does not affect the natural growth of the eyebrow. We definitely encourage you to groom your brows, especially if we are altering your natural shape. If, for example, we raise your tail a bit, allowing the hair to regrow outside the tattoo will make the tails appear thicker. You can still continue to wax, tweeze or thread to groom your brow. We do find that many clients are more comfortable with cleaning their own brows because the shape is always there, or they are able to go longer before their wax appointments because it retains the shape better.

Can you microblade over an existing brow tattoo?

We are extremely selective when working over existing tattoos and other tattoo artists' work.  If you have had your eyebrows previously tattooed, we request that you email us clear photos of your brows for approval (beauty@revepermanentmakeup.com) BEFORE your appointment booking. In addition to the photos in your email, please include the date of your last brow tattoo, how many sessions you received, and the business name and artist name who performed your service. Please remember deposits are non refundable. If you book your appointment and pay your deposit before receiving approval, we cannot guarantee you will be approved and you will lose your deposit.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

You can find details instructions on the PRE & POST CARE section of our website. But here are some important things to know.
  • Prior to your booked appointment you will receive, via text or email, a link to our Health History Form. Please fill and submit this form at least a week prior to your appointment. 48hours before your appointment you will receive a Covid-19 agreement form, via text or email. Please fill and submit this form at this time to ensure any precaution measures are taken accordingly.
  • We strongly advise prospective new clients to book their Microblading appointments at least 2-4 months in advance of Vacations, Weddings, and Special Occasions. This allows adequate time for healing of both your Initial Microblading Appointment as well as a Touch-Up  Session 6-12 weeks later. It is a multi step process.  Some clients need more than two sessions to achieve their desire density and shape.
  • 24 hours prior to your appointment, DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL or CAFFEINE.
  •  72 hours prior to your appointment, DO NOT TAKE ADVIL or other blood thinners such as Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Niacin or Vitamin E unless medically necessary.
  • Botox should be done 4 weeks before or 4 weeks after the procedure.
  • Avoid booking during your menstrual cycle as it can increase your pain.
  • No waxing or tinting 3 days before.
  • Be prepared for your brows to look a little red and really dark! – don’t worry, they will fade in color 30% +
  • YOU MUST NOT BE SUN TANNED OR BURNED. WE CANNOT PROCEED WITH YOUR SERVICE. A sun tan/burn is injury to the skin, as the skin is healing itself it will shed all the top layers. This means the pigment will not stay. Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE, please plan accordingly.
  • PLEASE BE READY FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT. We work on a strict schedule and allow 2-2.5 hours per appointment. This includes answering questions you may have, mapping brow, numbing and microblading. It is important that you trust our artistry and work. Do not book your appointment if you are hesitant, unsure, or apprehensive about changing your natural brows. Book when you are 100% ready for your new brows. We understand everyone is a little bit nervous but this creates a safe space for both you and the artist, allowing us to do our best work in creating your new brows!

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure is performed by using a prepackaged, sterile, single-use hand tool that has ultrafine needles to implant pigments into the skin. The artist creates hair-like strokes, carefully positioning them to mimic real eyebrow hair. Hybrid Brow also encompasses a "stipple" technique to build up color and density where we desire.

How long does the procedure take?

Microblading is a 2 step process, usually 6-12 weeks apart. It is important to complete both the initial procedure and touch up.

STEP 1: The initial procedure takes approximately 2-2.5 hours. During this time, a
consultation is done where we discuss your desired brow look, choose a colour tone and draw the initial outline of the procedure area for your approval. Though our faces are NOT perfectly symmetrical (one side is usually flatter than the other), we do our very best to create as much symmetry as possible!  Once you are satisfied with the basic shape and symmetry, we numb the area, then begin applying the pigment. This procedure uses a manual hand tool and not a machine.

STEP 2: The second stage of the treatment is a TOUCH-UP appointment. The touch up that takes approximately 1.5 hours. Touch ups are done no earlier than 6 weeks of your initial procedure and no later than 12 weeks. If you do not schedule your touchup within 12 weeks, additional fees will apply.
It is IMPERATIVE you complete the touch up treatment. Without it, the results will not be optimal. Color will fade significantly within 4 weeks as the skin heals, peels and fades. The touch up gives your technician a chance to make any changes or corrections necessary.

**Occasionally a third touch up (6-8 weeks after your touch-up) is necessary for certain clients where the pigment does not take as well to the skin. Please note a third touchup will incurr additional fees.**

How do I schedule my touch-up?

Your touch-up appointment needs to be scheduled 6-12 weeks after your initial visit.  It is extremely important that you schedule your touch-up as soon as possible after your initial visit, as appointments are limited and fill up quickly. Your touch-up is very important! It will allow us to see your healed results and make any necessary adjustments. You can schedule your touch-up appointment by using the Book Now tab. Please note that a non-refundable deposit is required to book your touch-up visit as well.

Does it hurt?

While each individual will have a different experience when it comes to pain during the procedure, we do use a combination of numbing creams to minimize the discomfort. Some clients have reported feeling no pain at all, only feeling a slight pressure on the area being microbladed. Other clients say the sensation is similar to that of tweezing the brow area. Once the numbing gel wears off, the area may be sore or tender.

Is the pigment used safe? Do I need a spot test?

We care about the health and safety of our clients, which is why we chose only the best microblading pigments in the market, PHIBROW pigments.
  • Exclusively made for microblading and allow easy application with excellent colour retention.
  • Tartrazine free, as it is highly allergic artificial coloring additive.
  • No heavy and toxic metals, that usually can be found in 98% of semi permanent pigment brands.
  • Vegan friendly
Although the pigments we use are the best in the market the manufacturer of the pigment requires spot/patch testing and specifically disclaims any responsibility for any adverse reaction to applied pigments. Spot/patch testing may identify individuals who develop an immediate allergic reaction to pigment, however, spot/patch testing does not identify individuals who may have a delayed reaction to pigment.
Ultimately the decision is up to you. You will be asked to  RECEIVE or WAIVE   a spot test prior to appointment while submitting your Consent Form. If you choose to have a spot test done please call us to schedule your appointment. Appointment should be done at least 48 hours prior to microblading (we suggest 1 full week) there is a $75 fee for your spot test appointment.

How is the shape and color chosen?

We make our recommendations based on your facial structure, measurements and ratios. Together we create the shape that best suits you. We map out your new shape with a cosmetic pencil first so you can see how it will look on your face, and we will not start the procedure until you are happy with what we have created. Same  applies when choosing the color. We have a wide range of natural colors, as a rule of thumb, we closely match the color of your brow hair rather than your current hair color for the most natural results. Please note, it is important that both the client and artist are happy with the shape and direction of your new brows. We have worked extremely hard to develop our signature style and the work you see on our social media pages is the art we do. Please be sure, prior to booking, that we match your personal style and this is the right artist for you. We do not tattoo extremely skinny, pencil thin brows, traditional block brow tattoos, or unnatural/extreme brow shapes.

What should I do after the procedure?

After the procedure, you will be provided with aftercare producst as well as  aftercare instructions. These must be used and followed carefully to ensure the procedure area heals properly. FINAL RESULTS ARE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY HOW CLOSELY YOU FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS.
There is no down time for Microblading, however, the area may be red and tender and we recommend that you do not plan any social activities afterwards. This is NOT a quick fix beauty treatment and you have to be prepared to endure all the healing stages of Microblading. Please note that your brows will appear darker and more intense than expected for the first few days (30-40% darker). They may also look thicker in shape. This is completely normal as the excess pigment is sitting on top of your skin. This will gradually fade during the healing process. The final results are NOT meant to stay as dark as your brows appear immediately after procedure is finished.

The following instructions apply for the 10 days following your procedure:

  • Ointment application. Ointment must be applied every two hours on the first day, and once at night days 2-10. (You will also be given wipes to gently clean the area directly before applying the ointment).
  • The brows need to be kept dry. This means protecting them from direct water exposure in the shower, washing your face with a damp cloth only, no swimming, steam, etc.
  • No sweating. This includes exercise, sauna, hot yoga, outdoor activities etc. for the 10 day healing period.
  • No sun exposure. If you will be outdoors for extended periods of time, you must wear a hat.
  • DO NOT RUB, PICK OR SCRATCH AT THE TREATED AREA. It will typically take 7-14 days for the brows to peel/flake.
  • No other products or makeup should be applied on the brows. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Itchiness, redness and residual swelling is normal. Symptoms will dissipate each day.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face/brows for the first 10 days.
  • Keep your bangs and hair pulled back from your face for the first 10 days.
  • On day 11 wash your brows gently with mild soap and pat dry. (Please note that 10 days is generally enough time for the brows to heal. However, if you feel that the brow area is NOT fully healed you may continue the aftercare instructions for as many days as you feel necessary. Of course you can always reach us with any question or concerns during your healing process).
  • NO facials, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
  • NO botox for 4 weeks. We recommend that it's best to wait until after your touch up heals to get Botox, as an educated injector will take your new brows into consideration when choosing where to inject.
  • After 10 days, once the area has healed completely, consider using sunblock when going out in the sun to stop the color from fading.
  • You may resume brow tinting 2 weeks after your procedure.
  • Avoid Retin-A, Chemical Peels and Microderms around the brow area once healed.
  • IF YOU SEE ANY SIGNS OF AN INFECTION OR AN ALLERGIC REACTION, YOU MUST CONTACT ANAHI AT 847-261-4408.

Your brows may appear very light underneath after they peel due to the tissue still healing from the inside out, even though the surface has healed.  Your skin heals over the top of the strokes and will naturally exfoliate itself. The true color will reveal itself once fully healed after the touch up, typically around weeks 4-6. Again, this all depends your skin. High quality pigments and equipment are used to ensure the best results but do not guarantee how your skin will react to the procedure.

Does it hurt after I'm done?

The area can be a little sore for the first few hours and tender to touch for a couple days. Itchiness is also common the first couple of days to weeks.

What if I do not like it?

As with all cosmetic procedures, individuals should not make their choices lightly.  We always recommend clients do their research, understand the procedure and compare different artists' work and portfolio when making their decisions. Our brow technician will do their utmost to shape and style the eyebrows to the clients satisfaction prior to the procedure, while staying true to our Reve style. Every effort will be made to achieve an even appearance, but please realize our faces are never perfectly symmetrical. Uneven appearance can be fixed during the touch up session. Pigment discoloration and color correction can also be addressed during the the touch up session. Microbladed brows will eventually fade away if no additional touch ups are done.
Allow the brows to heal before making final judgment on your new brows.

PLEASE NOTE: Microblading is a multiple-step appointment process. Healed results will vary with each individual client, and due to the nature of the procedure, NO guarantees will be made. Additional sessions (at an additional charge) may be required to obtain optimal desired results. Although we give our best efforts to provide you with quality service, many factors can result in a less than desired outcome as each client will heal differently. In order for your new brows to heal properly (and look their very best) following all Pre & Post Care Instructions is crucial! Pre Care Instructions are designed to limit bleeding and skin sensitivities during the service. Excessive bleeding during the procedure can dilute and expel the pigment color and lead to poor results. Brows are NOT meant to stay as dark as they initially appear immediately after procedure. Your brows are gradually and continuously getting lighter as your skin is always naturally regenerating and exfoliating itself. Yearly color boost are recommended to keep your brows looking their best.
